New Technology Cuts Down Thermal Testing Time by 90%

The Industrial Technology Research Institute, Taiwan, has developed a new In-Line Compact Thermal Analyzer Technology (ICTA), which reduces the testing time to 0.3 seconds, an improvement of the LED thermal testing time by more than 90%. It also offers a measurement speed of 12,000 LEDs per hour.

The Industrial Technology Research Institute, Taiwan, has developed a new In-Line Compact Thermal Analyzer Technology (ICTA), which reduces the testing time to 0.3 seconds, an improvement of the LED thermal testing time by more than 90%. It also offers a measurement speed of 12,000 LEDs per hour.

Industrial Technology Research Institute has received an R&D award for this breakthrough technology. The research institute claims that ICTA has longer lifespan and greater performance than competitors’ analyzers. The technology improves production yield, performance and lifespan of LED devices such as LED bulbsmobile phonesTV, laptop display backlight, etc.

This new technology has high speed temperature sensitive parameter (TSP) measurement technique that not only cuts down LED testing time, but also improves efficiency of thermal structure analysis. This, in turn, leads to more reliable LED products for consumers. ICTA can also be used to solve thermal induced stress, that enables innovative package design and material property identification.

“Till date, measuring LED thermal resistance was quite complex, time-consuming and could only take place in the laboratories at the product design stage. But with ICTA, manufacturers can now see defective products on the production lines in real-time, increasing efficiencies by lowering LED lighting defect rates, and optimizing production processes, as well. With ICTA manufacturers can create higher quality and stable LED lighting products,” James, Mu Tao Chu, division director at ITRI, said in a press release. “ICTA‘s cost efficient solution can make the technology more attractive choice for home and office lighting,” he adds.
