LED strip lights are used in home, office, shop lighting and various industrial applications. LED strip lights are available in different lengths, brightness and colors. LED strip lights are classified as indoor and outdoor according to their places of use.

Although the resistance of LED strip lights to dust and water is determined by the IP rating, it is generally sufficient to use only the term indoor or outdoor.

Indoor LED strip lights generally have an IP20 protection class. Indoor LED strip lights are not resistant to outdoor conditions and water. If small drops of water fall on these LEDs, it may cause a malfunction. Indoor LED strip lights are generally used for the illumination of areas such as under cabinets, shelves, bookshelves, and attics.

Outdoor LED strip lights have a protection degree of IP65 and above. Silicone coating is used on outdoor LED strip lights to protect the LEDs and other circuit elements against dust and splashing liquids. Such LED strip lights can be easily wiped using a damp cloth. It can diffuse light better with the clear silicone coating on the outdoor LED strip lights. Due to the coating on the outdoor LED strip lights, they are thicker and less flexible. Outdoor LED strip lights can be used to illuminate areas such as gazebos, patios, walkways, decks, railing.

It may be necessary to peel off a small portion of the silicon coating to power up the outdoor LED strip lights. In this case, the stripped part will become unprotected. All connection points and exposed conductors should be covered with suitable silicone.

LED strip lights, designed to work outdoors, are approximately 60 percent more expensive than indoor LED strip lights.

If you are working on a project and are concerned about quality and durability, it may be a good idea to opt for outdoor LED strip lights.
